Ok…I think I’m back in love again.
If you read my last post you’ll remember my little rant about the Noro Kureyon Sock yarn that I was using for my latest project. I said I was breaking up with Noro, because it frustrated me so much while crocheting this shawl. The thick and thin places, the knotting, and tangling were reeeaaally getting on my nerves. Well… after blocking this shawl, I started warming up to the yarn yet again.
It’s a vicious cycle:D
The colors are so striking and beautiful. I just wish I could photograph the colors accurately. They are much more vibrant in person. I tried to photoshop them, but they still don’t look true to life. After modeling for the photos, I wore the shawl the rest of the day. I loooove it.
But I am staying strong. I will not use Noro anytime soon. However, after wearing this shawl I realize that I can’t say that I will never ever use (Noro) again…tehe:D
Never say never…knowing me I will be tempted again.
Here’s the details about this project.
I found the pattern on Ravelry. It is a Lion Brand pattern called Bridal Shawl and it’s free:)
I used 1 skein of Noro Kureyon Sock Yarn (color 184). It took the entire skein, which is about 450 yards.
4.0mm crochet hook (G hook)
I’ve wanted to post the Hello Kitty hat pattern but have decided to get going on my paying project pattern. The due date will be here before long, and it’s a priority right now. I’m hoping to finish this weekend and have the Hello Kitty pattern available by Sunday.
Love it!!!! I mean it sounds like such a pain, but the finished project is gorgeous!
Liz, your shawl is gorgeous!! I am working on a cowl right now with Noro yarn and the thin, thick and slubs do drive you crazy when you are working on it, but the colors are just gorgeous! Like you said it is a vicious cycle!
Thank you. It was a real pain, but it's worth it in the end. I'm still not buying Noro for a long time, though
Thank you. I'd love to see your cowl…I know it will be beautiful:)
All I can say is WOW! I can see why you may have a Noro change of heart after completing that beautiful shawl. I am just going to go on a Noro diet for a while. That way I am not really breaking any rules if the Noro fumes overwhelm me in the yarn store, I am just cheating a bit.
Hugs to you,
Meredith
It's absolutely beautiful!!
I've heard other say the same thing about Noro yarn. I've only used it once but I loved it! I made some fingerless gloves so granted, it didn't matter a ton if it had thick and thin spots. I like that look.
You shawl is just to die for. LOVE those colors!!
Genevieve
It is beautiful, Im so tempted to make a shawl in it now… despite your warnings because it looks so lovely… Hope you are having a great week, good luck with getting your pattern finished on time! Jxo
Meredith,
Thanks so much. Going on a diet is a great way to put it. I guess I'm on one too. It's ok if we cheat a little from time to time:D
Thanks Genevieve. Yes the thick and thin didn't bother me as much as the tangling. I bet I spent a couple of hours trying to untangle the end because I didn't want to break it. Which would have made the third break in that one skein. But all is well now…I'm happy:)
Thanks Janette,
I would recommend Noro for the colors, but definitely not for the ease of use. I want to try Poems, I wonder if the colors are comparable. Have a great weekend 😀
Your version is fantastic! Lovely yarn:)

Thank you:) I love your blanket with the neon accents. I'm going to try out your stitch that you used. I love it:D
oh Michelle, it's lovely! haven't used noro before, but after seeing this post, i really must!
Very pretty! And I know what you mean about the Noro…been there, done that! It's always worth it in the end though. I've never seen an ugly Noro project! Congrats on finishing. It's beautiful.
So cute!! I love it♥
sehr schön geworden dein Noro Shawl

Thank you. It's definitely worth trying out…you might love it.
Thank you. I guess there are good/ bad with most things, even yarn:) The end product makes up for the hassle.
Thank you:)
A georgeous scarf the colours are the sort I would wear.
Bet you're glad that you perserved with it.
That is a shawl worthy of being in love with, oh wow. (Although I'm sorry your relationship with the yarn didn't go smoothly—other than my lack of budget for it, I'm scared to try Noro because of all the knotting/thick-and-thin issues I've read about. But the colours in this shawl! The way they move is just beautiful, and your stitching looks perfect!)
Gorgeous Scarf. Love the colours.
I have nominated you for an award

Thank you and yes I'm glad I stuck with it. I knew the colors would make up for the extra work.
Thank you so much for you nice compliments. I don't buy Noro very much and one major reason is the price. I would expect $20 for 460 yards to be darn near perfect. At least the colors are.
Thank you so much. That is so nice of you. I will go to your blog now and check it out:D

I have a skein of this sock yarn and I'm thinking this is a must do! Your's turned out so beautiful 🙂
I'm a newbie in crochet, how did you get to have the same row of colors?
This is absolutely beautiful!!
This is absolutely beautiful!!
Haha….I recently broke up with Noro, too, after an insane struggle with a cowl using Noro Taiyo. Now I've bought some Silk Garden. This may be an abusive relationship. 😉

Your talent with color is phenomenal! I never would have been able to visualize this from white to the gorgeous piece you have created. Enjoy! Worth your efforts!

I can only think of a few words right now…oh my! and WOW should cover it! I do agree, the finished product is definitely worth it! (easy for me to say since I didn't make it yet) 🙂

Beautiful 🙂 I have been looking for a project to use my ball of Noro sock yarn on and this looks perfect!
Qubes – the yarn is 'self-striping' so you don't have to change colours 🙂

I have tried finding the pattern on ravelry, but your link takes me to a different shawl. Would you mind terribly checking the link to the pattern, and posting it again? I would be extremely grateful!
